Our Students

Unique challenges, unique solutions.

Every student is different and has unique needs. Focus Academy gets to know your student, including what they enjoy doing in their spare time, what bugs them, what they may fear, and more. Staff members use their knowledge of individual students to motivate and encourage them, meeting them on their terms.

Focus Academy serves students with educational designations including:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

  • Intellectually Disabled (IND)

  • Other Health Impaired (OHI)

Prospective students should

  1. Have an active Transitional Individual Educational Plan (T/IEP),

  2. Be independently functioning

  3. Not require the services of a one-on-one aide.

Students are carefully evaluated and placed according to their social/emotional, independent functioning, and academic levels.

Focus Academy serves students ages 11 through 22, to extend the timetable for students to transition.  Life skills and "next steps" are highlighted throughout the high school curriculum, complementing the Transition Program for students that have graduated.

Our innovative Transition Program extends and applies the Focus Academy concepts to honing comprehensive life skills and moving students into the workplace through volunteer internships with community partners.

More Learning Opportunities

At Focus Academy, students also have access to activities that strengthen social skills in ways not offered through other schools.

The AM Rally is a fee-based early drop-off program offered Monday through Friday, 7:30-8:30 a.m.  The program provides physical, sensory and social activities to help students successfully transition into their school day.

Our After School Enrichment Program is a fee-based program running Monday through Friday, 4 to 6 p.m. The goal of the program is to deepen social learning via involvement in activities that encourage or require involvement with others. Activities included are based on student passions or interests. It is designed to strengthen social connections, and give students ways of seeing through different perspectives.
